Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis in an Intravenous Drug Abuser: A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Article type: Case report Recently, there have been more reports of cardiac valve infections due to the increasing number of intravenous (IV) drug abusers and chronic renal failure patients. Among cardiac valves, tricuspid valve is most commonly affected in the course of endocarditis. Appropriate management of these patients is a challenging and controversial issue in the field of cardiac surgery. Treatment options in such cases include IV antibiotics, surgical excision alone, and surgical excision with the re-implantation of prosthetic valve. In this study, we present a case of tricuspid valve endocarditis (TVE), confirmed by echocardiography, in a young IV drug abuser. Tricuspid valve replacement was performed by using a biological prosthesis with remarkable results in the early and long-term follow-up of the patient. متن کاملEustachian valve endocarditis: a rare localization of right side endocarditis. A case report and review of the literature
BACKGROUND Right-sided endocarditis occurs predominantly in intravenous drug users, in patients with pacemaker or central venous lines and in patients with congenital heart disease. The vast majority of cases involve the tricuspid valve. Eustachian valve endocarditis is an uncommon disease with similar signs and symptoms of the tricuspid valve endocarditis. A series of only 16 cases of eustachi...
متن کاملValve Repair Using Autologous Pericardium in Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis
Tricuspid valve endocarditis is a significant cause of valve-related morbidity and mortality. Prosthetic valve reconstruction can be costly and requires life-long anticoagulation. We present our experience with surgical management of an endocarditis damaged tricuspid valve leaflet in an intravenous drug user. We were able to excise the infected tissue and successfully repair the native valve us...
متن کاملCASE REPORT Community acquired staphylococcal pulmonary valve endocarditis in non-drug users: case report and review of the literature
Right sided endocarditis usually involves the tricuspid valve, predominantly in intravenous drug users. It is also occasionally acquired in hospital as a result of contaminated intravascular devices. Isolated infection of the pulmonary valve is rarely seen. A case of community acquired Staphylococcus aureus pulmonary valve endocarditis that caused diagnostic confusion is reported. This infectio...
متن کاملTricuspid Valve Endocarditis due to Klebsiella Specie in a Non-Intravenous Drug User - A Case Report and Review of Current Literature
Tricuspid valve (TV) endocarditis is known to be predominant among intravenous drug users (IDU) commonly due to staphylococcus species. Isolation of Klebsiella species from a TV endocarditis is an uncommon finding. Endocarditis leading to heart failureportends a worse prognosis and is an indication for surgical intervention. In this report, a 20 year old female non-intravenous drug user (NIDU) ...
